CSFR - Donate Now! Hands Off Immigrants' Rights Activist, Nadia Topete!

The Committee to Stop FBI Repression is asking for donations from all of our supporters to help us do what we do. At this moment, we aim to use the funds to continue our defense of immigrants' rights activist, Nadia Topete of the Centro CSO in Los Angeles.

Topete has declined to appear and testify in front of a grand jury scheduled for June 6. Grand juries are often used as tools of political repression. They almost always result in indictments, especially of political activists, and those who testify do so without legal counsel in the room. Refusing to testify can lead to jailtime - with an end date that is unknown.

We don't know why she was subpoenaed. All we know is that she is an activist in the same group as other fighters for immigrants' rights, including Alejandro Orellana who was charged by the federal government for his participation in the anti-ICE uprisings last year and whose charges were dropped. We will speak out if activists get subpoenad, raided, or charged; we think resisting grand juries and refusing to talk to the federal governments about activists is the right thing to do. We think Topete is heroic, did nothing wrong, and committed no crime.

We want to make sure that whatever the outcome, Nadia Topete has legal counsel. We will be prepared for whatever comes. If you oppose attacks on free speech and our First Amendment right to protest, please donate to the CSFR and help us defend Nadia Topete, a true daughter of Aztlán.
