Tallahassee Students for a Democratic Society Stands With Alejandro Orellana
Tallahassee SDS stands in solidarity with Alejandro Orellana and stands firmly against the continued weaponization
San Jose State SDS stands in solidarity with Alejandro Orellana, an immigrant rights activist facing repression from the Trump administration.
On June 12, in Boyle Heights L.A, Alejandro was unjustly raided and arrested by the FBI, held in custody until a protest prompted his release.
Trump’s rotten justice system has leveled two bogus charges against him, conspiracy to commit civil disorder, and aiding and abetting civil disorder. All Alejandro has done was participate in the heroic protests against the brutal ICE raids that have threatened the people of Los Angeles.
Orellana has been a long-standing member and leader in Centro CSO, well-regarded by his community for his steadfastness in upholding immigrants’ rights. Trump wants to dismantle our movements by targeting leaders and activists with legal repression, to intimidate us into submission.
The student movement is no stranger to such tactics, one need look no further than cases such as that of Mahmoud Khalil, as well as the Stanford 12 more recently. But cases like Mahmoud Khalil prove that when we, the people, fight and struggle as loudly as possible against Trump’s repression, we can seize victory.
On August 26, Alejandro will be put on trial. But we won’t stand for the obviously false charges against him; after all, no one should face repression for exercising their first amendment rights.
SDS SJSU stands in solidarity with all activists resisting Trump’s agenda who are facing repression, and Alejandro is no different. We join countless other progressive organizations in a singular call; DROP THE CHARGES!
JUSTICE FOR ALEJANDRO! PROTESTING IS NOT A CRIME!
