Silicon Valley Immigration Committee Solidarity Statement with Alejandro Orellana

Find their statement linked on Instagram here.

On June 12, FBI agents, National Guard troops and LA County Sheriff’s deputies raided Alejandro Orellana’s residence in East Los Angeles. Alex is a leading member of over a decade of Centro CSO, a grassroots organization that fights for the needs of the Boyle Heights and East LA Chicano, Mexican and Central-American community. Alex is being charged with “conspiracy to commit civil disorder”.

We in the Silicon Valley Immigration Committee reject these bogus charges, that could carry a sentence up to 5 years in prison, against Alex. Protesting is not a crime, ICE and the National Guard have been terrorizing communities in Los Angeles and Alex stood on the right side of history and has been a role model for his community in protesting against this terror!

We condemn the FBI’s blatant act of political repression against Alex! Alex is free on bail, but has yet to have all charges dropped. Alex will be having a preliminary hearing and court appearance on June 27th. We will be participating in the mobilization with L4A partners in calling the U.S. Attorney (213) 894-2400, Bilal Essayli, demanding all charges be dropped against Alejandro Orellana!

Alex is innocent, standing up against ICE terror and protesting is not a crime! SVIC stands with Alejandro Orellana and demands the FBI immediately drop all charges!
