LUNO Solidarity Statement for Alejandro Orellana

Liberate and Unite New Orleans (LUNO) SDS stands in solidarity with Alejandro Orellana, an immigration rights activist, who is currently facing unjust prosecution from the Trump administration for taking part in anti-ICE protests. We adamantly demand that all charges against Alejandro be dropped and that those behind this racist witch hunt be held fully accountable.

This year we have seen countless brave activists like Mahmoud Khalil and Rumeysa Ozturk be unjustly pursued and detained for speaking out against all manner of injustices whether it be the demented and brutal activities of ICE here in the U.S. or the ongoing genocide perpetrated against the Palestinian people by the Zionist entity. Alejandro Orellana is certainly amongst these heroes as someone who truly stands up for their community and speaks out in the face of the fascist policies implemented by the Trump administration.

Orellana has done nothing to warrant the charges of “conspiracy to commit civil disorder” and “aiding and abetting civil disorder” beyond lawfully protesting the horrific ICE raids that have continued to plague Los Angeles. As a member and leader of Centro CSO, Alejandro has actively resisted the fascist operations of ICE in order to defend immigrant rights and protect his community.

These attempts by the Trump Administration to label Alejandro’s protests as any sort of criminal act can only be seen as a precursor for the increased prosecution of lawful protests so as to silence any and all dissent against this administration’s vile policies and outright crimes both domestically and abroad.

If the cases of Mahmoud Khalil and Rumeysa Ozturk have shown us anything it is that when we dare to struggle and amplify the voices of the people, we can most certainly win. As such, we owe it to Alejandro to both stand in solidarity with him and engage in constant struggle to ensure that he faces no more continued persecution due to the machinations of this repressive and reactionary administration.

LUNO SDS stands with all oppressed peoples and as we stand in solidarity, we re-affirm our beliefs: PROTESTING IS NOT A CRIME! DROP THE CHARGES NOW! JUSTICE FOR ALEJANDRO!
