On June 12th, FBI agents along with the National Guard and East LA Sheriffs arrested Alejandro Orellana, a member of Centro CSO, an affiliate branch of Legalization For All based in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. Alejandro was arrested because he dared to stand up and support his community. After immense community pressure led by the Centro CSO, Orellana was released the following day! The power of the people are driving ICE back and freeing people like Alejandro, and it will be the power of the people that get Orellano’s charges dropped!
Alejandro is faced with the bogus charge of conspiracy to incite civil unrest. This charge could land Alejandro up to 5 years in prison. Now is the time to stand in unconditional solidarity with Orellana, the people of Los Angeles, and with all immigrant communities under attack. Anything less than solidarity with Orellana and immigrant and Chicano communities would be a victory for the enemy, the same enemy responsible for the racist policing that kills record numbers every year.
We are entering another major wave of struggle. We must meet this moment by taking to the streets and by working with the broader masses who are opposed to these racist raids, deportations, and the Trump agenda. The struggle continues, and the Detroit Community Action Committee will do all it can to defend Orellana and the immigrant and chicano community of Detroit.
On June 27th Alejandro will have his preliminary hearing and first court appearance at 2:30 EST. Join Legalization For All’s national call-in day on June 27th and call U.S. Attorney Bilal Essayli at 213-894-2400 and tell him to drop the charges!
On Friday June 27th, the Detroit Community Action Committee will be having a march and rally at the ICE HQ at 985 Michigan Ave at 6:30 pm. Come out and show your support for Alejandro and the immigrant community of Detroit!
