AFSCME Local 526 Resolution Calling for Dropping of Charges Against Alejandro Orellana and David Huerta

RESOLUTION
Passed unanimously at the July 16th AFSCME Local 526 member meeting

AFSCME Local 526 Demands:
Drop the Charges against Alejandro Orellana and David Huerta

July 16th, 2025

AFSCME Local 526 condemns the prosecution of Alejandro Orellana and David Huerta, two Los Angeles trade unionists targeted for standing up to ICE.

Alejandro Orellana is a Teamster who organizes for immigrant rights with the Centro Community Service Organization. On June 12th, FBI agents, National Guard, and LA County Sheriff’s officers executed a heavily militarized raid on Orellana’s home. Orellana’s property was confiscated, and he was taken away in handcuffs on the bogus charge of “conspiracy to commit civil disorders.”

SEIU California President David Huerta was arrested on June 6th while picketing an ICE raid at a workplace. He was thrown to the ground, injured, and arrested by Federal agents. Huerta is being charged with “conspiring to impede an officer.”

David and Alejandro’s arrests are a clear attempt to scare anti-ICE activists and trade unionists into complacency. This will not work. All around the country, people have risen up to oppose Trump ‘s lawless ICE raids terrorizing immigrant communities and tearing apart families. When our neighbors and union siblings are under attack, organized labor won’t back down, we will stand in solidarity and fight back.

AFSCME Local 526 demands that all charges against Alejandro Orellana, David Huerta, as well as those of other labor and immigrant rights activists be dropped!

ICE out of our neighborhoods and workplaces!

Protecting our communities is not a crime!
