Detroit Anti-War Committee Says, Stand With Alejandro!

On June 12, 2025, the FBI raided the home of Alejandro Orellana, an activist and leader in Centro CSO, a Chicano-led organization that has been resisting ICE’s attacks on Los Angeles. In an attack that is a clear response to the people’s support of LA, the FBI has charged Alejandro with several charges, including “conspiracy to commit civil disorder.” If convicted, he could spend up to five years in prison.

The Detroit Anti-War Committee condemns this attack on Alejandro Orellana, who has done nothing wrong. He has bravely defended his community from the LAPD, National Guard, and ICE agents attacking Los Angeles, which is something to be celebrated. Alejandro has been active and visible in his resistance to Trump, which we see clearly as a motive to attack him at such a critical moment. As activists, we see these charges against Alejandro for exactly what they are: another one of the Trump Administration’s many attempts to repress our movement against him. It is for these reasons that we demand ALL CHARGES ON ALEJANDRO ORELLANA BE DROPPED!

On June 26, 2025 — the day before Alejandro’s preliminary hearing, the FBI ambushed Chicana activist and Centro CSO leader Verita Topete and seized her phone. While she walked her dog, the FBI waited until she was alone to manhandle and detain her. Detroit Anti-War Committee is disgusted at the FBI’s gross attempts to repress our movement! Stop the FBI witch hunt now!

As activists in the pro-Palestine movement, we see the parallels between FBI’s attacks on Alejandro and Verita and ICE’s kidnappings of activists like Mahmoud Khalil and Rümeysa Öztürk. Since Trump has taken office, his administration has tried every trick to repress us.

Instead of scaring us, we have remained steadfast in our solidarity, and we see the ever-growing connections between the anti-war movement and the immigrant rights movement.

Today, June 27th, show the FBI, Trump, and U.S. Attorney Bilal Essayli that the people stand with Alejandro Orellana! While he faces a preliminary hearing regarding the charges against him, we join the Committee to Stop FBI Repression’s call to take action.
